Job Description:
Position Overview:The Principle Architect represents Sutter
Health and its affiliates in providing and/or managing the planning
and programming and overseeing the provision of architectural
services for capital improvement projects. The Principle Architect
establishes the key capital project constraints - the project
definition that shall be managed as the capital project is
implemented. This project definition is critical to project success
as it includes scope budget and schedule definitions that support
the business plan and become the basis for expectations that the
project shall be measured against. The Principle Architect ensures
consistent, quality facility planning and programming processes and
use of building standards. The Principle Architect provides timely
input into business and master plan development. This position
collaboratively engages the affiliate in planning the facility with
an eye towards effective patient management. In conjunction with
the Director, PD, the Principle Architect translates strategic
planning demand/capacity models and optimized care models into
spatial constraints or programs and leads the development of
building system plans and design standards. The Principle Architect
helps develop and review RFQs and projects-specific RFPs, offering
selection recommendations of vendors. The Principle Architect
partners with Project Management staff to determine and assist with
securing specific project expertise needed within the Project
Delivery Team including Architectural and Interior Design, Signage
Design ,Engineering and Specialty Consultants, and Move
Coordination as required. Additionally, the Principle Architect
continues to be involved, in a leadership role with Project
Delivery Teams for the duration of project implementation to assure
project compliance with approved project scope parameters and with
the Project Manager, assess the Project Delivery Team's
performance. The Principle Architect shall also at times be called
upon to fulfill the duties of a Senior Project Manager. In this
capacity, the Principle Architect may manage the project delivery
team staff to provide coordinated expertise, standardized tools and
project management advice to the
affiliate.Qualifications:Education:Bachelor of Architecture
required. Master in Architecture preferred. Must be a
professionally licensed architect. Professional registration in the
State of California is strongly preferred.Experience:A minimum of
10-12 years architectural experience with projects of increasing
complexity. Specializes in the design of health care facilities and
has experience in three (3) of the following categories: Medical
Office Buildings, Acute Care, General Hospitals, Out Patient
Surgery Centers and Psychiatric Hospitals. Must have been in
responsible charge of the design of major projects (over $50
million construction cost). Vendor management and contracting
experience required. Included within the required years of design
experience, the Principle Architect must also have been in
responsible charge of implementing his/her designs. Project
management experience with construction projects of increasing
complexity is also required. Demonstrated leadership and
supervisory skills in the delivery of health care facilities
including medical office buildings, acute care general hospitals,
outpatient surgery centers and psychiatric hospitals from
programming through facility activation. Must have been in
responsible charge of the delivery of major projects exceeding $50
million construction cost and of significant complexity in at least
two (3) of the above categories.Knowledge:Must be well versed with
architectural and/or building systems concepts, health care
construction building codes and regulations, space programming and
allocation cost analysis, construction processes and procedures,
and contract negotiation. Must be knowledgeable of the State of
California building approval processes including OSHPD, the State
Fire Marshall, and municipal discretionary approvals, as well as
JCAHO regulation. Thorough understanding of project
coordination/management, budgeting and scheduling concepts and
procedures is required, as well as the process of project planning,
design and construction. Must be familiar with hospital procedures
and department functions. Knowledgeable on current trends in
healthcare facility development and facility designs impacting
patient care and operating efficiency.Special
Skills/Equipment:Consultative skills to gather needs and translate
requests into potential solutions. Excellent verbal and written
communication skills, management techniques and technical
knowledge. Experience in project management from design through
final completion and licensing on major California hospital
projects must be demonstrated. Strong client relationship
management skills to maintain positive relations between FPD and
affiliate leadership. Ability to team with staff across multiple
projects. Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage and balance
multiple interests, build consensus among a wide range of
stakeholders, delegate appropriate tasks to technical and
non-technical support personnel. and resolve conflicts. The ability
to work independently and as a team member and achieve designated
goals and objectives are required. Familiarity with computer
software programs such as Microsoft Word, Project and Excel is
preferred.Physical Requirements:Must have current driver's license
and be insurable to travel by car. Position requires some travel
and may require flexible hours. Must be able to provide project
site supervision. Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds.
