Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY The general, the focus of the Center Mental
Health Consultant is on the early identification and diagnosis of
mental health problems; basic mental health care; and mental health
promotion, prevention, and education designed to develop staff
knowledge and help students overcome barriers to employability.
MANAGEMENT & SUPERVISION N/A RESPONSIBILITIES o Advises the Center
Director and health and wellness staff on all mental health matters
and overall Center program and organizational consultation to the
Center Director and administrative staff on a regular basis. This
will include staffing requirements. o Provides consultation on the
development of a system to promote the coordination and integration
of the mental health and wellness program with other Center
programs and activities such as counseling, residential life, and
recreation. This will be done in cooperation with the Health and
Wellness Manager, Center physician, Center dentist, other health
professionals, as well as any staff member involved with students.
o Advises and assists the wellness course instructors regarding
mental health and wellness services during student introduction to
Center life. o Consultation with Center health and wellness staff,
counselors, residential life staff, instructors and other
appropriate staff concerning the ongoing mental health concerns of
students. o Assists with program development for the purpose of
meeting the life crises of students in constructive ways. For
example, involvement with the career preparation, development, and
transition periods, the Center disciplinary program, the maximum
benefits program, the cultural awareness program, and the trainee
employee assistance program (TEAP). o Facilitates staff development
on using mental health principles and techniques. This will include
coping with problems of alcohol and drug use, sexuality, aggressive
behavior and poor communications. o Advises the Center Director on
the advisability of students' separations for mental health
reasons, and the cost of mental health services, including
inpatient o Ensures the maintenance, confidentiality, and
safeguarding of all necessary mental health records. o Involved in
the issuance and maintenance of signed and dated health care
guidelines regarding mental health matters and unless it is
inconsistent with applicable state practice law. o Provides
diagnostic and evaluative services to students as necessary. o
Provides limited forms of psychiatric treatment including crisis
intervention, brief psychotherapy, intermittent supportive
psychotherapy, psychotropic drug management and group
psychotherapy, as permitted by licensure or accreditation. o
Provides appropriate referrals for students who must be separated
for mental health reasons. o Consults with the TEAP staff on the
development of a system to promote the coordination and integration
of the mental health and wellness program with the TEAP and related
center wide programs o Provides staff development on using mental
health principles and techniques, including coping with problems of
alcohol and drug use. o Provides clinical assistance to students
and the TEAP Specialist, especially with students who may have
co-morbid psychiatric and substance abuse disorders. o Reviews
program applicant folders and assist with the reasonable
accommodation process. o Adheres to the policies, procedures,
program instructions and guidelines established by Job Corps. The
Mental Health Consultant and the Center further agree that the
Mental Health Consultant will have primary responsibility under the
Center Director's guidance to implement the program outlined above.
o Enforces appropriate student workplace behavior when students are
in the Wellness Services area. o Collects data and prepares reports
as required by the Center Director and/or the Department of Labor.
o Cooperates with corporate and Regional Office Center assessments.
o Mentors, monitors and models the Career Success Standards as
required by the PRH. o Shows respect and courtesy to students and
holds them accountable for their actions and behavior. o Provides
quality services for students and ensures that quality is
maintained and student needs are met. Pursues improvement and
enhancement of requisite services. o Exchanges ideas and
information, both orally and in writing, in a clear and concise
manner and contributes meaningfully to group efforts by offering
relevant ideas and knowledge. Provides quality and timely
information to Company when requested. o Effectively articulates
thoughts and ideas. Identifies problems, analyzes causes and
evaluates appropriate solutions prior to taking or recommending
actions. Follows up to ensure prompt/appropriate action is taken
and that problems are in fact corrected. o Works in partnership
with staff from all Departments to ensure effective supervision and
services are provided to students. o Accepts direction and
supervision from the Center Director/Center Duty Officer/Shift
Manager to include assignments to temporarily perform job
responsibilities of other departments and positions. o Other duties
as assigned. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Must be a
Clinical/Counseling Psychologist or Clinical Social Worker with an
active, unrestricted license to practice as an independent
practitioner in state where center is located. Two years of
experience in diagnostic assessment and therapy services with youth
and young adults preferred. “Adams and Associates, Inc. abides by
